Beyoncé and Jay Z split rumours have been going back and forth more times than a tennis ball at Wimbledon in recent years. There’s so much speculation about the state of the famous couple’s relationship, we even had to go to the efforts of creating a nifty timeline to recap it all.
But the latest developments are perhaps the most confusing yet; after both Bey and Jay were reported to be spotted without their wedding rings on during the first night of Beyoncé’s Formation tour in Miami. Oh, what in the world is going on with you two?
In a picture uploaded to Beyoncé’s official site, her left hand is quite visibly without a ring, while a photograph uploaded to Instagram by Lenny Santiago, the Senior Vice President of A&R (artists and repertoire) at Jay Z’s music label, Roc Nation, indicated that the rapper wasn’t wearing his ring, either.
Now the Beyoncé pictures we could make excuses for; have you SEEN the size of that bloody rock she carries around on her ring finger? It’s massive, and therefore there’s every chance that she could’ve just slipped it off pre-concert to avoid whacking one of the dancers in the face with it by accident and giving them a black eye.
But Jay Z? No passable excuses we can think of.
And the timing is catastrophically coincidental, given that Beyoncé has just released her new visual album, Lemonade, which appears to pretty much be a memoir of all the times she got cheated on, by the sounds of it.
But in contrast to these pictures, Beyoncé dedicated her performance of the song Halo to her “beautiful husband” on stage during the first night of the tour. So unless she was just mugging us all off and having us all on, it seemed like she was pretty loved up last night – wedding ring or no wedding ring.
All this is obviously TOTAL speculation, and nobody knows the ins and outs of Beyoncé and Jay Z’s marriage aside from them. But given there’s all this gossip – and even bets being made on whether they’ll publicly call it a day before the end of the year – we hope if there isn’t anything wrong with the marriage, that this doesn’t put extra, unnecessary pressure on it.
