Two soldiers allegedly torture 16-year-old into coma

A 16-year-old boy accused of stealing a mobile phone belonging to a soldier has been allegedly beaten to pulp and is currently in a critical condition at a community hospital in Nsawam in the Akuapim South Municipal District of the Eastern Region.

The Chronicle Newspaper reports Thursday that before the teenager was subjected to torture the two soldiers pointed guns at his head in a bid to get him to confess to stealing the Tecno mobile phone. He is currently in a critical condition at the Nsawam Government Hospital. The torture incident, according to The Chronicle newspaper, happened in Tamale in the Northern Region. “With legs not touching the ground, the 16-year-old boy, believed to be a long-standing errand boy for Corporal Samson Atuahene [owner of the missing phone], was beaten till he fell unconscious, and yet the soldiers would not show any mercy. “To further press on the boy to produce the missing phone he claimed he never took, the two soldiers, according to an eyewitness, melted polythene bags and dropped them on [the 16-year-old]n@ked body until he regained consciousness,” reports The Chronicle on Thursday April 21, 2016.
The newspaper reports that authorities at God Cares Community Hospital at Nsawam say the young teenager’s condition is “very critical, and that he required advanced medical examination at a higher facility to save him.”
